Project Safe Neighborhoods:
MILFORD MAN SENTENCED TO 57 MONTHS IN
FEDERAL PRISON FOR ILLEGALLY POSSESSING AMMUNITION

David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that HAROLD GEORGE MACDANIEL, 50, of Milford, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Robert N. Chatigny in Hartford to 57 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release.  On December 28, 2010, MACDANIEL pleaded guilty to one count of possession of ammunition by a previously convicted felon.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on two occasions in July 2010, MACDANIEL purchased ammunition from a licensed firearms dealer.  On August 4, 2010, MACDANIEL was arrested in Milford pursuant to a criminal complaint.  On that date, a search of MACDANIEL’s vehicle revealed one round of Hornady 12-gauge shotgun ammunition.

Prior to July 2010, MACDANIEL had sustained two felony convictions.

It is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.

This matter was investigated by the Stratford Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives pursuant to the Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative.  The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Douglas P. Morabito.

The Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative is aimed at reducing gun and gang violence, deterring illegal possession of guns, and improving the safety of residents in Connecticut’s cities.  Participants in the initiative include community members and organizations as well as federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
