NEW HAVEN MAN ADMITS ILLEGALLY
RECEIVING SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY BENEFITS

David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that DARRYL WILSON, 46, of New Haven, pleaded guilty today before United States Magistrate Judge Donna F. Martinez in Hartford to one count of theft of government funds stemming from his unlawful receipt of Social Security disability payments.
           
According to court documents and statements made in court, between January 2002 and December 2006, WILSON collected Social Security Administration Supplemental Security Income benefits in the amount of $146,045.52 for documented medical conditions.  During that time, WILSON used his cousin’s social security number to continue to work and receive income.
           
WILSON is scheduled to be sentenced by United States District Judge Robert N. Chatigny on February 13, 2012, at which time WILSON faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years, a fine of up to $250,000 and an order of restitution to the Social Security Administration.
           
This case was investigated by the Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General.  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Elizabeth A. Latif.
