Project Safe Neighborhoods:
HARTFORD MAN SENTENCED TO MORE THAN THREE YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR ILLEGAL GUN POSSESSION

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 30, 2011

David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that ARMANDO GONZALEZ, also known as “Doughboy,” 29, of Lisbon Street, Hartford, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Mark R. Kravitz in New Haven to 37 months of imprisonment, followed by two years of supervised release for illegally possessing a firearm.  On October 11, 2011, GONZALEZ pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on June 30, 2011, GONZALEZ possessed a .40 caliber handgun.  The firearm was seized during the execution of a search warrant at GONZALEZ’s apartment.  On that date, law enforcement officers also seized 14 marijuana plants and 859 baggies of heroin.

Prior to June 30, 2011, GONZALEZ had been convicted of criminal possession of a firearm and first degree larceny, both felonies.  It is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.

GONZALEZ has been detained since his arrest on June 30, 2011.

This case was investigated by the Hartford Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration.  The case was being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan S. Freimann.

The Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative is aimed at reducing gun and gang violence, deterring illegal possession of guns, and improving the safety of residents of Connecticut’s cities. Participants in the initiative include community members and organizations as well as federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
