FAIRFIELD MAN CONVICTED OF POSSESSING STOLEN FIREARM
David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that KURT SCHNEIDER, 22, of Fairfield, pleaded guilty today before United States District Judge Vanessa L. Bryant in Hartford to possessing a stolen firearm.
According to court documents and statements made in court, on October 24, 2011, SCHNEIDER was stopped by police in Bridgeport and found to be in possession of a Charter Arms .22 caliber rifle. The rifle was one of six firearms that had been stolen from a residence in Fairfield several hours earlier.
Judge Bryant has scheduled sentencing for October 24, 2012, at which time SCHNEIDER faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years.
SCHNEIDER has been detained since his federal arrest on March 8, 2012.
All six stolen firearms have been recovered.
This matter was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Fairfield Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Tracy L. Dayton and Michael J. Gustafson.
