Nuisance Property Abatement Success Story

311 Crittenden Street, NW
(PSA 404)(Ward 4)

311 Crittenden Street, NWThrough the efforts of the property owner, MPD, and the USAO, the drug nuisance which has plagued the neighborhood around 311 Crittenden Street has been abated. Since at least May 2003, apartments in the building have been used to distribute cocaine and marijuana. Several Fourth District prosecutors vigorously prosecuted criminal cases arising from search warrants at the property. Members of the United States Attorney’s Office cited the owner, and met with the owner’s building manager and discussed a strategy to abate the nuisance. The Community Prosecutors supplied public documents to the owner for actions in civil court, and facilitated communications between law enforcement officers knowledgeable of the problem and the manager. Based on the efforts of MPD and USAO, the owner was able to bring successful actions against the tenants who were distributing drugs at the property. Since communicating with the United States’ Attorney’s Office, the owner is better able to protect his property from becoming a nuisance.
