The Felony Trial Section is responsible for the post-indictment
prosecution of most felony cases brought in Superior Court.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys assigned to the Section handle a variety
of felony cases involving, among other things, narcotics trafficking,
weapons offenses, and stolen vehicles. They also are given opportunities
to assist more experienced colleagues in preparing and trying
more complex cases. More experienced attorneys assigned to the
Section prosecute serious felony cases such as armed assaults,
robberies, burglaries and more complex financial or property
crimes. The Section's violent crime prosecutors are assigned
to and lead a particular team of Assistant U.S. Attorneys, though
they handle cases before a variety of trial judges. From time
to time, they also are asked to handle violent crime cases specially
assigned to the court's Accelerated Felony Trial Calendar in
which the defendant is held without bond.
