District man sentenced to 15 years
in prison for sexually abusing his daughter

 

WASHINGTON - A 32-year-old Northeast Washington, D.C. man was sentenced today in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia by the Honorable Frederick Weisberg to 15 years in prison, to be followed by ten years of supervised release, for sexually abusing his twelve-year-old daughter, announced U.S. Attorney Jeffrey A. Taylor. The defendant, whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim, will also have to register as a sex offender for ten years upon his release from prison.

On June 17, 2008, the defendant entered a guilty plea to one count of first-degree child sexual abuse. According to the government's evidence, on May 26, 2008, the defendant went to a local hospital and reported that he had been sexually abusing his daughter, who was twelve-years-old. A subsequent investigation revealed that the defendant began sexually abusing her when she was nine. The most recent incident occurred on May 25, 2008.

In announcing the sentence, U.S. Attorney Taylor praised the hard work of the lead Detective, Andre Davis, of the Metropolitan Police Department's Youth Investigations Division. U.S. Attorney Taylor also acknowledged the following members of the Metropolitan Police Department who assisted in the investigation: Third District Officers John Terry, Robert Scippio and Tyque McCarthy, Evidence Technicians Robert McCollum and Kemper Agee, and Youth Investigations Division Detectives Robin Blyden and Darrin Burks. In addition, the U.S. Attorney acknowledged the helpful assistance of Victim Advocate Tracey Hawkins, Paralegal Specialist Cynthia Muhammad and Legal Assistant Donice Adams. Finally, the U.S. Attorney commended the work of Assistant U.S. Attorney David M. Rubenstein, who investigated and prosecuted the case.
