Law Enforcement

Our Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee Program (LECC) consists of four primary components: 1) Tranining, 2) Problem Solving, 3) Community Outreach / Community Service, and Liaison Under Training. The LECC provides customer centered training to our law enforcement community.

For example, the "Guns First" program sponsored by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms trains officers and agents in firearms investigation and firearm tracing, a key component to firearms violence reduction. Training in "Hate Crime Investigations: assisted officers in identifying the underlying indicators which are always present in hate crime incidents. In addition, the very successful training program "Agent as a Witness", which prepares new law enforcement officers for testifying in court, as well as "Community Oriented Policing" (COPS), and Asset Forfeiture Funding are a foundation of the LECC training program.

One aspect of the Problem Solving component of the LECC has been to address the needs of local law enforcement agencies to acquire equipment and obtain additional funding to support its work. Through the Section 1033 program, a military sponsored program, law enforcement agencies have access to military surplus equipment at no cost to their agencies. Anything from vehicles to computers are available to agencies in the District of Delaware. With the assistance of the Bureau of Justice Assistance, BJA grants have assisted agencies in the areas of technology acquisitions as well as financial support to carry our special initiatives.
