Designation of Permanent (Historical) Cases
Review each closed case to determine if it meets any of the
following criteria for permanent retention:
- The case had an impact on a statute, rule, regulation, or law
enforcement policy, e.g., set a precedent.
- The case received local, regional or national media attention, or the
interest of a Congressional committee or the Executive Office of the
President, or widespread public interest.
When a closed case is designated as permanent, Section II, Item 1 of
Form USA-207 shall be completed, and the case transferred under a separate
accession to the Federal Records Center (FRC).
