16. Procedure With Respect to Processing Settlement Offers
If a settlement offer is received, the U.S. Attorney
should:
- Ascertain in writing the views of the local office of the
acquiring agency;
- Formulate his/her own views of the offer, based upon the
compatibility of the amount of the settlement with the sound
appraisals upon which the government would rely as evidence in the
event of trial, having due regard for probable minimum trial costs
and risks.
