Voting Assistance for the Elderly and Handicapped Act

The Voting Assistance for the Elderly and Handicapped Act, 42 U.S.C. §§ 1973ee-1 to 1973ee-3, which applies only to federal elections, protects access to voter registration and voting for disabled persons. The Act's emphasis is on voluntary compliance, and the Department has not yet found it necessary to file any legal actions to enforce it. Also relevant in this regard is the Americans with Disabilities Act, 42 U.S.C. §§ 12101 to 12213.
