Coverage under the Special and Minority Language Provisions of the Voting Rights Act, by Federal Judicial District

Indicated below are federal judicial districts having one or more counties covered by Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act and thus subject to the preclearance requirement of Section 5 and eligible for federal examiners and observers under Sections 6 and 8 (indicated by "special") and federal judicial districts having one or more counties covered by the minority language requirements either of Section 4 or Section 203 of the Act (indicated by "minority language"). If a state comprises a single judicial district, or if all of a state's judicial districts are affected in the same manner, individual districts are not named. For a complete listing of states and counties covered under these provisions see the appendices to the Attorney General's Section 5 guidelines (28 C.F.R. Part 51) and minority language guidelines (28 C.F.R. Part 55). For further information contact Voting Section Attorney David H. Hunter (202-307-2898, SS66(HUNTER)).
