Seizure of Postal Money Orders

Immediately following seizure of a postal money order, the seizing agency should send a list of the serial numbers, the amount of each money order, and a statement that the government has received the money orders and is entitled to them under forfeiture laws, to the National Money Order Coordinator, St. Louis Postal Data Center, P.O. Box 388, St. Louis, MO., 63166-0388; and provide the Marshals Service with a copy of this letter at the time the money orders are transferred to the Marshals Service for custody.

Upon forfeiture of the money orders, the Marshals Service will complete a Domestic Money Order Inquiry, PS Form 6401, for each money order and return the form via registered mail with the original money order to the National Money Order Coordinator along with the appropriate legal documentation showing that the government is entitled to receive the proceeds.
