U.S. Attorney Presents Restitution Payment to Foster Child Defrauded by His Foster Parents

U.S. Attorney Robert E. O'Neill presented a check to Markus Min Ho Kim, in the amount of $409,662.94. Mr. Kim was defrauded out of his deceased mother's life insurance policy by his foster parents, Radhames Antonio Oropeza and Asia Conception Oropenza.
Radhames Oropeza was convicted at trial of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and was sentenced to 36 months in federal prison. Asia Oropeza pleaded guilty to the charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud and was also sentenced to 36 months in federal prison. Together the couple was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $409,586.07 to Markus Min Ho Kim.
The check presented to Mr. Kim by U.S. Attorney O'Neill represents the total amount of restitution that the Asset Recovery and Victim Rights Division of the United states Attorney's Office, Middle District of Florida was able to recover.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. It was prosecuted by United States Attorney Robert E. O'Neill.
