What is the LECC?
Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee (LECC) was formed in 1981 and is a permanent cornerstone of joint federal, state, and local law enforcement efforts.
The goal of the LECC is to improve cooperation and coordination among law enforcement groups, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of the criminal justice system. Because the Middle District of Florida includes a large geographic as well as population base, joint training and networking is key.
The focus of the LECC Program is directly related to the vision and desires of the United States Attorney, as well as direction from the Department of Justice.
LECC membership in the Middle District of Florida is available to any local, state or federal law enforcement agency, the military, state attorneys, and local unit of government. Evidence of cooperation and teamwork among local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies can be seen in the numerous joint investigations and operations throughout the Middle District.
The LECC Program encompasses eight component areas:
- Law Enforcement Training
- Technical Assistance
- Violence, Gangs, and Drugs
- Community Outreach
- Public Relations
- Task Force Support
- Asset Forfeiture (Community Assistance)
- Special Initiatives
- Project Safe Neighborhoods
- Weed and Seed and Drug Education for Youth (DEFY)
- Hate Crimes Working Group
- Comprehensive Anti-Gang Inititiative (CAGI)
- Ex-Offender Re-Entry
