TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE INFORMATION

Planning a strategy and making it work often requires a fresh new look. It may also involve re-educating the strategic team on different approaches to use to overcome barriers. The Executive Office for Weed and Seed provides this technical advice to its sites to make sure they have the resources and 'know how' to move their vision into a reality. Trainers may come in to teach residents and agency representatives, ways to improve their strategic approaches or new ideas to incorporate into their sites. Now, take a moment to see how it is done.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE is . . .

  • Provided directly to sites to assist in the development and implementation of their Weed and Seed strategy
  • Site initiated or requested by Executive Office for Weed and Seed (EOWS)
  • Also provided by a series of workshops offered by Executive Office for Weed and Seed (EOWS)
  • Provided through multi-site workshops planned by Executive Office for Weed and Seed (EOWS) including National and Regional Conferences

The Executive Office for Weed and Seed will arrange for the following technical assistance through the Director of Technical Assistance and Training

    • Satellite Broadcasts
    • In-sites Newsletter
    • Training Workshops/Conferences

    • Site Based Technical Assistance and Training Request Steps:

      Site based technical assistance requests must provide direct support to the steering committee and constituents involved in the local Weed and Seed effort.

      Develop technical assistance Request

      Site Steering Committee develops a technical assistance request in response to specific site needs. Requests should be justified in support of the site's Weed and Seed strategy.

      Submit technical assistance for Review.

      Site submits technical assistance request to Executive Office for Weed and Seed (EOWS) program manager who then contacts site to review technical assistance requests.

      Develop technical assistance Work Plan.

      Executive Office for Weed and Seed (EOWS) finalizes work plan for the technical assistance including matching a site's needs to the list of qualified technical assistance providers; negotiating technical assistance services with technical assistance providers; and arranging technical assistance logistics. Working technical assistance plan is developed.

      Obtain Approval For technical assistance Plan.

      Working technical assistance plan is submitted to Executive Office for Weed and Seed (EOWS) Director of technical assistance and Training for approval. If approved, plan is processed by EOWS.

      Negotiate Contract Agreement.

      If a technical assistance provider is involved, the work plan and contract agreement is negotiated. The request is processed for technical assistance provider payments and reimbursement requests upon delivery of services. Contract negotiations and payments are handled through Executive Office for Weed and Seed (EOWS).

      Deliver technical assistance.

      Technical assistance is delivered. Progress is monitored by Executive Office for Weed and Seed (EOWS) program managers.

      Evaluate technical assistance.

      Customer satisfaction survey is sent to Weed and Seed site receiving technical assistance.

      A Statement

      explaining the need for and objectives of the technical assistance request. Include how the needed technical assistance fits into your site's overall Weed and Seed strategy.

      A Description

      of the specific assistance requested.

      What Should You Include in the Technical Assistance Request?

      Each technical assistance request should have the following sections: The description should include each anticipated task associated with the request.

      If a Contractor or Service Provider

      has been identified, include as much background information as possible. If no contractor has been identified, Executive Office for Weed and Seed (EOWS) will work with you to find an acceptable provider.

      Anticipated Costs.

      Include expected consultant rates, facility rental rates, copying and production costs for materials, travel, hotel, and per diem costs.

      Time Frame.

      Indicate when the technical assistance should be provided.

      Participants.

      Identify the representatives form your site who will participate in the technical assistance.
