CANTONMENT MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO THREATENING
PHONE CALLS AND POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

Pensacola, Florida - United States Attorney Gregory R. Miller, Northern District of Florida, announced today that John W. McNair, 59, of Cantonment, Florida, pled guilty to a two count federal indictment charging him with making threatening interstate telephone calls and possession of child pornography. The investigation began in early August 2007 when McNair placed multiple telephone calls to women in Nashville, Tennessee and informed them that he was with a female child who he was having thoughts of molesting. In order to stop him from molesting the child, McNair asked the women to talk with him on the telephone while he performed a sex act.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, working alongside the United States Attorney's Office, the Pensacola Police Department, and the Escambia County Sheriff's Office located McNair at his Cantonment home. Law enforcement located the cellular telephone McNair used to place the calls, and they also recovered a significant amount of child pornography in the home. Law enforcement recovered thousands of images of child pornography, and also noted dozens of Barbie dolls in various stages of undress even though McNair had no children in the home.

The sentencing for McNair has been set for January 17, 2008. He faces a maximum of 15 years imprisonment and a life term of supervised release thereafter. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pensacola Police Department, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office and the United States Attorney’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David L. Goldberg.
