MAN FEDERALLY INDICTED FOR ROBBERY OF PEOPLE’S
FIRST COMMUNITY BANK OF GULF BREEZE
AND FIRST GULF BANK OF PENSACOLA
Pensacola, Florida - Gregory R. Miller, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, announced today the return of a federal indictment on January 23, 2008, against Terry Dale Dayton, 37. The indictment alleges that on July 27, 2007, Dayton robbed the Peoples First Community Bank located at 1387 Shoreline Drive, Gulf Breeze, Florida, of $4,424.00, assaulting or putting in jeopardy the life of another person by use of a dangerous weapon. The indictment further alleges that on August 14, 2007, Dayton robbed the First Gulf Bank located at 2122 West Nine Mile Road, Pensacola, Florida, of $9,320.00, assaulting or putting in jeopardy the life of another person by use of a dangerous weapon. The deposits of both financial institutions were insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation at the time.
Dayton is currently in custody in North Carolina, where he was indicted on December 18, 2007, for three counts of bank robbery in that jurisdiction. He has not appeared in United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida on the local charges.
Each bank robbery charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 25 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and a $100 special monetary assessment.
This case was investigated by the Gulf Breeze Police Department, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Randall J. (Randy) Hensel.
An indictment is merely a formal charge by the grand jury. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until he is proven guilty in United States District Court.
