RETURN PREPARER CHARGED WITH TAX FRAUD

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
R. Alexander Acosta, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and Daniel W. Auer, Special Agent in Charge, Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation, announced the unsealing of a twenty-six count indictment against defendant Beaudelaire Telfort on tax fraud charges. After being arrested on April 24, 2009, the defendant made his initial appearance in Magistrate's Court and was released on bond.
As set forth in the Indictment, it is alleged that Telfort willfully assisted in the preparation of false U.S. Individual Income Tax Returns (Forms 1040) for numerous individuals during calendar tax years 2002 and 2003, in violation of Title 26, United States Code, Section 7206(2). The tax returns contained false information regarding wages, income and withholding amounts.
If convicted, defendant Telfort faces a possible maximum statutory sentence of 3 years in prison.
Mr. Acosta commended the investigative efforts of the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation Division. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Joseph B. Shumofsky.
