PROJECT SAFE CHILDHOOD
NATIONAL AWARENESS LAUNCH MARCH 23, 2007

United States Attorney Maxwell Wood invites media to attend an open discussion regarding PROJECT SAFE CHILDHOOD in the Middle District of Georgia on Friday, March 23, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. in the U.S. Attorney’s Office located at 300 Mulberry Street, 4th Floor, Macon, Georgia. This media outreach effort will correspond to nationwide discussion held by United States Attorney General Alberto Gonzales in Washington, D.C. in a similar press event.

PROJECT SAFE CHILDHOOD is a nationwide initiative partnering the Department of Justice, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and the Ad Council to develop public service announcements to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse in the United States. Through increased investigations and prosecutions, we are getting pedophiles and predators off the streets and keeping them behind bars. Additionally, we are raising awareness through old-fashioned communication, educating the public on ways to prevent the future sexual exploitation of children.

For the benefit of media outside the Macon area the discussion will be linked through video conference to each of our branch offices. If you cannot attend the Macon event please join us through this resource. The U.S. Attorney’s Branch Offices are located at1246 First Avenue, Sun Trust Building, 3rd Floor, Columbus, Georgia and the C.B. King Federal Courthouse, 201 W. Broad Avenue, 2nd Floor, Albany, Georgia.

We encourage your participation in getting the message out to our communities. If you plan to participate please contact Sue McKinney, Public Affairs Specialist at (478) 621-2602.
