COCAINE TRAFFICKER SENTENCED
Maxwell Wood, United States Attorney, for the Middle District of Georgia, announced that Richard Ben Glawson, age 42, of Macon, was sentenced on March 13, 2008, to twenty-seven (27) years in Federal prison without parole.
Glawson, also known as Terry Green, was charged in a seven count indictment with distribution of crack cocaine and marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and escape from the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. He was convicted after a jury trial on October 31, 2007, on all counts.
Evidence presented during the course of the trial revealed that Glawson sold crack cocaine to an informant on June 3, 2003, June 20, 2003, and June 23, 2003. Glawson also sold marijuana to the same informant on June 4, 2003.
During negotiation for the drug purchases, evidence revealed that Glawson arranged and sold a 9 mm firearm to the informant on July 3, 2003.
In response to a warrant by a Federal District Judge, Glawson was placed in the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center on December 27, 2006. Evidence at trial showed that Glawson escaped from the Law Enforcement Center on December 31, 2006, by switching identities with another inmate.
Wood commented, “the potential sentence in this case reflects the government’s dedication to pursue and prosecute those who pander in illegal drugs and illegally possess firearms.”
The case was investigated by agents from the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, United States Marshals Service and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Charles Calhoun and Verda Colvin.
