INDICTMENT FOR TAX VIOLATIONS

Maxwell Wood,  United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, announced today, April 21, 2008, that ELMERA V. DEJARME of Milledgeville, Georgia, was indicted by the grand jury in the Middle District of Georgia for four counts of Tax Evasion, in violation of Title 26, United States Code, section 7201.  The maximum punishment in the event of conviction for each of the four charged offenses is five (5) years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, three (3) years supervised release, a $100 mandatory assessment fee, together with the costs of prosecution.  The four counts of the indictment allege Tax Evasion in relation to the 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 tax years.  

An indictment is only an accusation, and the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty at trial.

DEJARME had an initial appearance in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia on April 8th before the Honorable Claude W. Hicks, Jr., United States Magistrate Judge, after which she was released pending trial and further proceedings on an unsecured bond in the amount of $50,000.00.  DEJARME’s next scheduled appearance in court will be for arraignment on April 28, 2008 at 2:30 p.m.

The case was investigated by Agents of the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigations Division.
