FIREARMS SENTENCING

Maxwell Wood, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, announced today that WILLIAM HARRIS WILSON was sentenced on June 4, 2008, to a term of 12 months in federal prison by the Honorable Hugh Lawson, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia.  Wilson, age 59, of Homerville, Georgia, pled guilty on March 12, 2008, to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2).  Wilson was also sentenced to serve three years on supervised release.

Wilson had been convicted of murder in Clinch County, Georgia, in 1973.  In 1985 the State Board of Pardons and Paroles issued an order restoring Wilson’s civil rights.  However, the order restored all rights except the right to possess a firearm.  FBI agents discovered six firearms at Wilson’s residence during the execution of a search warrant on May 3, 2005.

Assistant United States Attorney K. Alan Dasher prosecuted the case.  Inquiries regarding the case should be directed to Ms. Sue McKinney, Public Affairs Specialist, United States Attorney’s Office at (478) 621-2602.
