FEDERAL GRAND JURY INDICTMENTS

Maxwell Wood, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, announced today the return of a True Bill in four indictments presented to the Grand Jury for the Middle District of Georgia.

1. George F. McCranie, Attorney in private practice, Douglas, Georgia, indicted for violations of 18 United States Code § 1001(a)(2), False Statements  and 18 United States Code §§ 1951 and  2, Hobbs Act: Extortion Under Color of Official Right;

2. Robert B. Sumner, Attorney in private practice, Pearson, Georgia, indicted for violations of 18 United States Code § 1512(c)(2), Obstruction of Justice and 18 United States Code § 1623(a), Perjury;

3. Timothy L. Eidson, Chief Public Defender Cordele Judicial Circuit, Cordele, Georgia, indicted for violations of 18 United States Code § 1001(a)(1), False Statements, and 18 United States Code § 1512(c)(2), Obstruction of Justice; and

4. J. Darrell Watson, former game warden and private citizen, Lanier County, Georgia,  indicted for violations of 18 United States Code § 1623(a) perjury and 18 United States Code
§ 1512(c)(2) Obstruction of Justice.

Maximum Possible Penalties:

False Statements - Five years imprisonment; $250,000.00 fine; one year supervised release; $100 mandatory assessment fine.

Obstruction of Justice - Twenty years imprisonment; $250,000.00 fine; three years supervised release; $100 mandatory assessment fine.

Hobbs Act - Twenty years imprisonment; $250,000.00 fine; three years supervised release; $100 mandatory assessment fine.

Perjury - Five years imprisonment, $250,000.00 fine; one year supervised release; $100 mandatory assessment fine.

An indictment is only an accusation, and the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty at trial.
