SECOND VILLAGE GREEN CLEAN-UP TO BE HELD

Project Unity will sponsor a neighborhood clean-up on Saturday, September 19, 2009 from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm in Village Green.  Volunteers will include residents of Village Green, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Macon Regional Crimestoppers, the N.A.A.C.P., Bibb County Fire Department, Macon Police Department, Bibb County Sheriff’s Department, Macon Probation Office, Providence Community Corrections, City of Macon and Bibb County.

The event will be the second phase of an effort by Project Unity to improve public safety and quality of life in the area.  Volunteers will be picking up debris, mowing overgrown lots, boarding up houses that have been deemed hazardous to public safety and demolishing two houses that have been condemned by the City of Macon.

Volunteers will gather at Minnie Burghard Elementary School at 7:30 am and then spread out in teams around Village Green.  Lunch will be served for all volunteers at 12:00 noon at the Village Green Park

A press conference will be held at 10:00 am at 6029 Bloomfield Road.  Following the press conference, that house will be demolished along with the house at 2832 Walmar Drive.

We would like to ask you to assist us in informing the community about the event and invite you to join us for the event.  If you have any questions, please call Pamela Lightsey at 621-2603.

We look forward to seeing you on September 19th and working together for the good of our community.  Crime and violence are everyone’s problem; community engagement is the solution.  Join us and help make Macon a safer community.
