U.S. Attorney’s Office For Hawaii Becomes a Five-Star Supporter to Hawaii’s National Guard and Reserves

Ed Kubo, the U.S. Attorney for Hawaii, announced today that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Hawaii has been recognized as an ESGR “Five-Star” Supporter to Hawaii’s National Guard and Reserves.

The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense agency, whose mission is to gain and maintain active support from all public and private employers for the men and women of the National Guard and Reserve. ESGR provides free education, consultation, and if necessary mediation for employers of Guard and Reserve employees. Its “Five-Star” recognition is one of the highest awards given out to employers who support the goals of ESGR.

In receiving the “5-Star” Statement of Support for Hawaii’s Guard and Reserves, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Hawaii:

  • Is publicly demonstrating its support for its employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve;
  • Has reviewed its Human Resources policies to ensure compliance with the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act Law (USERRA);
  • Promotes training for managers and supervisors to effectively manage its employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve;
  • Adopted polices and programs that are “Above and Beyond” what is required by the USERRA Law; and
  • Is an advocate for employee service in the National Guard and Reserve and will help to promote the mission of ESGR.

Kubo noted that “less than one percent of all employers of Guard and Reserve members nationwide have achieved the ‘5-Star’ level of recognition by the Department of Defense. I am proud to be fully supporting our brave men and women in the Guard and Reserve, and I am advocating that all U.S. Attorneys in the Justice Department join me in this unwavering sign of support by also earning a ‘Five-Star’ Statement of Support,” Kubo said.

As the 1.2 million members of the National Guard and Reserve continue to perform an increasing number of unique missions requiring extraordinary actions on the part of everyday citizens, ESGR will continue to be the informational agency for the employers of America’s Patriots. More information about ESGR program, and to sign up to show your support for Hawaii’s Guard and Reserve, please call ESGR Hawaii (Mr. Ken Wilson or Ms. Elaine Whitlock) at (808) 672-1246 or visit www.ESGR.com.
