U.S. Attorney Ed Kubo announced that Jorge Casas, aka Jorge Cano of Puebla, Mexico was sentenced today to 200 months of incarceration by U.S. District Court Chief Judge Helen Gillmor. The defendant was found guilty by a federal jury on August 17, 2006, of conspiracy to distribute, distribution, and possession with intent to distribute cocaine and crystal methamphetamine.

At trial the government's evidence showed that from May, 1999, to May, 2000, the defendant was the leader of a large drug conspiracy responsible for distributing cocaine and methamphetamine on Maui. For the past four years, the defendant had been a fugitive living in Mexico. He was apprehended by an INS boarder guard in California who recognized that the defendant was traveling with a forged Visa.

In announcing the sentence, United States Attorney Ed Kubo also commended the DEA for their diligent investigation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Susan Cushman prosecuted the matter at trial.
