U.S. Attorney's Office to Award "Certificate of Patriotism" to Employers of National Guard and Reserve Members in Hawaii

United States Attorney Ed Kubo announced today that the U.S. Attorney’s Office, in coordination with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), will be awarding Certificates of Patriotism to Hawaii’s employers of National Guard and Reserve members. “We are very proud of our employees who have been called to duty with the Guard and Reserve, but we must never forget their civilian employers, who are true Patriots because of the loss of their employees for a lengthy period of time, and we should recognize and thank them for their important sacrifice to our country,” said Kubo.

More than half of the National Guard or Reserve are citizen-volunteers whose military duty is a demanding commitment, in addition to a civilian career and family responsibilities. The Department of Defense encourages employers to enthusiastically support a strong National Guard and Reserve. ESGR is a DOD National Organization which provides free education, consultation, and if necessary, mediation for employers of Guard and Reserve employees. ESGR’s goal is to support America’s employers who share their employees with the nation to ensure our national security.

In Hawaii, U.S. Attorney Kubo is networking and assisting ESGR to make sure that the rights of Guard and Reserve members are protected, and that all employers are aware of federal laws protecting Guard and Reserve members from employment discrimination and retaliation for their military service.
