JULIE UYEMURA, MANAGER FOR WAIPIO OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE,
RECEIVES THE PRESIDENTIAL VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD

United States Attorney Ed Kubo announced today that Ms. Julie Uyemura, the Manager of Waipio Outback Restaurant, is the recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award.

"Each year, Ms. Uyemura has given her time, energy and significant resources by volunteering to feed hundreds of people who attend Mililani's National Night Out event at their Recreation Center. She has shown that she is a great role model by supporting that community's anti-drug initiatives, and she has donated over a hundred hours of volunteer work to support the Mililani community," said Kubo, in awarding her the distinguished award.

In 2003, President Bush created the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation to find ways to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers are making in our Nation. The President's Council on Service and Civic Participation thereafter created the President's Volunteer Service Award program as a way to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service. U.S. Attorney Ed Kubo is authorized to award this special award to exceptional volunteers in Hawaii.

For more information on the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, please contact Mr. Gervin Miyamoto, at the U.S. Attorney's Office at (808) 541-2850.
