"U.S. Attorney Receives State Law Enforcement Award"

The United States Attorney's Office announced today that Hawaii's U.S. Attorney Ed Kubo was the recipient of the prestigious "Lokahi" (Unity) Award on Friday, September 26, 2008, at a conference dinner event hosted by the Hawaii State Law Enforcement Officials Association (HSLEOA).

The Lokahi Award acknowledges the leader in Hawaii's law enforcement which best exemplifies the HSLEOA Motto of "Hui Kahi No Ka Pono," or "United for Justice." Throughout Kubo's tenure as the U.S. Attorney for Hawaii, he excelled in coordinating collaborative investigations and community outreach, and he has provided valuable leadership and a multifaceted approach to fighting crime and taking down drug trafficking organizations in our State. Under Kubo's leadership, law enforcement was very successful with local-state and federal partnerships, which is unique nationwide.

Six other law enforcement officers also received recognition for HSLEOA "Officer of the Year." They were Hawaii County Police Officer Brian Prudencio, Honolulu Police Officer Gerald Scoville, Jr., Kauai Police Officer Elliot Ke, Maui Police Officer Gregg Rowe, DEA Special Agent Stephen G. Borowski, and U.S. Army Police Officer Specialist Giovanni Gonzalez.

HSLEOA is an organization whose membership includes Executive Officials from all County, State, and Federal law enforcement agencies in Hawaii. Their mission is to prioritize, discuss and strategize on unified approaches toward solving our State's complex crime problems. This year, HSLEOA held its 55th annual conference. The theme was "Dealing with High Profile Cases" and attendees heard from investigators and prosecutors who handled such cases as the Green River Serial Killings, the Laci Peterson Murder, the Kobe Bryant and the Arrellano-Felix Drug Trafficking Organization investigations.
