COPS ANNOUNCES A FEDERAL GRANT
TO COMBAT CHILD SEXUAL PREDATORS IN HAWAII
United States Attorney for Hawaii, Ed Kubo, announced today that the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) of the U.S. Department of Justice has awarded the State of Hawaii Department of Attorney General, a $468,870 federal grant to assist its Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force to locate, arrest, and prosecute child sexual predators and to further enforce state offender registration laws.
“With this federal funding, the State Attorney General will have the money they need to aggressively go after those who would prey on our children here in Hawaii. This funding will effectively reduce child endangerment and keep our Keiki safe from sexual predators who would only hurt and scar them for the rest of their lives,” Kubo said.
These grants were awarded to 23 law enforcement agencies in 20 states. The COPS grant to Hawaii will allow the ICAC Task Force to hire and train community policing professionals, acquire and deploy crime-fighting technologies, and to develop and test innovative policing strategies.
For more information, please contact the COPS Office at (202) 514-9079.
