THREE MEN SENTENCED TO PRISON IN CONNECTION
WITH 50-POUND METHAMPHETAMINE SHIPMENT

HONOLULU, HAWAII –At sentencing hearings today, Chief United States District Judge Helen Gillmor sentenced co-defendants Lauolefiso Afo, age 36, and Joe Daniels, age 34, to prison terms of 185 months and 170 months, respectively, upon their convictions for conspiracy to distribute, attempted distribution, and possession with intent to distribute approximately 50 pounds of methamphetamine. At a separate sentencing hearing yesterday, January 22, 2009, a third co-defendant, Junior Auelua, age 44, was sentenced to a 185-month prison term for violations arising from the same 50-pound shipment.

Edward H. Kubo, Jr., United States Attorney for the District of Hawaii, said that according to information produced in court, the approximate 50-pound quantity of methamphetamine was discovered in February 2008 contained in two FedEx parcels which were being shipped from California to Hawaii. Daniels was a Kapolei resident of Hawaii at the time of the offense, while Afo and Auelua were from Carson and Torrance, California, respectively.

The investigation of this matter was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration airport task force in Honolulu. The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Thomas Muehleck and Lou Bracco.
