Opportunities for Attorneys
The United States Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa periodically recruits for Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) or Special Assistant United States Attorneys (SAUSAs) as vacancies occur. Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree; be an active member of the bar (any jurisdiction); possess superior oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills; and have a demonstrated capacity to function, with minimal guidance, in a highly demanding environment. Additionally, it is desired that the successful candidate have at least three years of post J.D. professional, legal experience. In hiring attorneys for the office, experience, academic record, character, interest in public service, courtroom presence, and the ability to work with and relate to a wide variety of people are all taken into account. The office seeks a diverse complement of lawyers with a wide range of skills, unified by keen intelligence and a sincere commitment to public interest. The office has and will continue to build upon its commitment to develop and maintain a dedicated and diverse staff of AUSAs and SAUSAs in serving the public.
