If you are a victim

If you are or think you are a victim of human trafficking there is help available to you. Please contact any of the Northern Iowa Human Trafficking Response Team - Partners of Eastern Iowa for help. (Click Here)

There are a number of benefits and services available to victims of severe forms of trafficking. The VTVPA allows victims who are not U.S. citizens to be eligible for certain benefits and services to the same extent as refugees. (For more information see the Health and Human Services website.)

Also, certain government-funded programs, services, and assistance that are necessary for the protection of life and safety, such as crisis counseling and intervention programs for victims of criminal activity, short-term shelter or housing assistance, and mental health assistance, are available to anyone, regardless of their immigration status.

Victims must be provided reasonable access to interpretation services and translators.

Additionally information about free or low-cost legal services, including immigration services, is available to victims of severe forms of trafficking.

Also, victims of severe forms of trafficking may be eligible for other services that are generally available to federal crime victims. Many federal agencies, including the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of Iowa, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have victim specialists who assist victims of federal crimes throughout criminal investigations and prosecutions.

If you are a victim, please reach out to someone for assistance. If it is an emergency call 911, otherwise click here for contact information on agencies that can provide you with assistance.
