Iowa City Woman Sentenced in Drug Case Involving The Distribution of Cocaine Base
DAVENPORT, IA – On January 18, 2008, Darlene Ann Barney, 52, Iowa City, Iowa, appeared before United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey and was sentenced to 120 months (10 years) in federal prison, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered Barney to pay an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victim Fund. Barney had entered a plea of guilty to Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine Base.
Barney was indicted on September 13, 2006, charging her with Conspiracy to Distribute at least 50 grams of Cocaine Base in Johnson County in the Southern District of Iowa. Barney will be in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. There is no parole under the federal system.
United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker stated the investigation was conducted by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Johnson County Multi-agency Drug Task Force comprised of the Iowa City Police Department, Coralville Police Department, and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
