Des Moines Man Sentenced on Firearm Possession Charges

Des Moines, IA - On February 8, 2008, Anthony Ramas Walls, 35, of Des Moines, Iowa, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment of twelve months and one day for possession of a firearm following a misdemeanor conviction of domestic violence, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. In addition to the term of imprisonment, United States Senior District Court Judge Ronald E. Longstaff sentenced Walls to serve a three-year period of supervised release following his incarceration, as well as being ordered to pay a $100 assessment to the Crime Victim Fund.


On February 23, 2007, Mr. Walls was found in possession of several firearms and related ammunition following a search of his residence.


On September 17, 2007, Anthony Ramas Walls entered a plea of guilty to one count of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Mr. Walls was a person prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a prior conviction of a charge of domestic violence.


This case was investigated by the Des Moines Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. This case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
