Two Cedar Rapids Men Found Guilty of Robbery, Firearms, and Drug Offenses

Davenport, IA - On March 12, 2008, a Davenport federal jury found ADRIAN LAMONT MCCRANEY, 28, and KENNIE ALEXANDER WILLIAMS, 25, both of Cedar Rapids, guilty of the following: Count 1 – Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute; Count 2 – Robbery affecting interstate commerce(Hobbs Act Robbery); and, Count 3 – Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of Drug Trafficking and Robbery, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. McCraney also was found guilty of Count 4, Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The trial was presided over by the Honorable John A. Jarvey, United States District Judge.


On August 29, 2007, McCraney and Williams arranged to purchase 7 ounces of cocaine from a drug source in Coralville. Instead, McCraney and Williams robbed the source of the cocaine at gunpoint and subsequently led the police on a high speed chase onto north bound Interstate 380, throwing evidence from the car as the chase proceeded. Police eventually forced the defendants’ car to stop by bumping it.


The possible penalties include the following: Counts 1 and 2 – each is punishable by up to 20 years imprisonment; Count 3 – a minimum mandatory sentence of 5 years imprisonment that must be served consecutively to any term of imprisonment awarded on the other counts; and, Count 4 – up to 10 years imprisonment.

A sentencing date has not yet been set. Until that time, both McCraney and Williams will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal’s Service.


This case was investigated by the Johnson County Drug Task Force, Coralville Police Department, Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, the Iowa Department of Public Safety, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa prosecuted the case.
