Davenport Man Sentenced On Federal Firearm Charge
DAVENPORT- On April 28, 2008, Dawayne Mac McGowan, age 28, formerly of Davenport, Iowa was sentenced by United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey to 65 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to a charge of felon in possession of a firearm, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. McGowan was also ordered to serve two years supervised release upon release from prison and assessed him to pay $100 to the Crime Victim Fund.
On February 20, 2007, the Bettendorf Police department executed a search warrant at a Bettendorf apartment. The Davenport Police department assisted in the subsequent search of this apartment. Inside, officers found Dawayne Mac McGowan and a loaded .32 caliber handgun. McGowan had a previous felony conviction and stated he had just purchased the firearm that same day.
This case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Iowa as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative. This investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Bettendorf Police Department, the Davenport Police Department, and the Scott County Attorney’s Office.
