Mexican National Sentenced on Immigration Charges

Davenport, IA- On December 12, 2008 , Alejandro Ramirez-Bernal, 45, of Mexico, was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment following his earlier guilty plea to one count of unlawful entry after deportation, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered that Ramirez-Bernal serve a one year term of supervised release following his incarceration, ordered that his sentence run consecutive to a 10 year state sentence for a felony drug conviction, and assessed him to pay $100 to the Crime Victim Fund.

This investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Muscatine County Drug Task Force and the Muscatine Police Department.
