Davenport Man Sentenced on Federal Gun Charges

DAVENPORT, IA - On January 9, 2009, Roy Lee Roberson, age 36, formerly of Davenport, Iowa was sentenced by United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey to 82 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm as a felon, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. McClellon was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release after his imprisonment, and to pay a $100 assessment to the Crime Victim Fund.


On January 18, 2008, the Davenport Police Department stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Roberson was a back seat passenger in the vehicle that also contained two adult females and two children. Officers detected an odor of marijuana and conducted a search of the vehicle. Officers found and seized a loaded Smith and Wesson .357 caliber revolver from the rear map pocket directly in front of where Roberson was sitting. At his plea hearing, Roberson admitted he possessed this firearm and had previously been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for in excess of one year.


This case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Iowa as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative. This investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and the Davenport Police Department.
