Indiana Man Sentenced on Federal Drug Charges

DAVENPORT, IA- On February 6, 2009, David Roberts, age 41, formerly of Indiana was sentenced by United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey to 70 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession of a stolen firearm, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. Roberts was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release after his imprisonment, and pay an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victim Fund.


On or about October 12, 2007, members of the Quad Cities Metropolitan Enforcement Group (MEG) came into contact with Roberts near Interstate 80 in Scott County. Agents determined that Roberts possessed a loaded .38 caliber revolver in his vehicle. Roberts admitted that on this date, this same firearm was stolen. Roberts stated that he won this firearm in a “craps” game and observed that the serial number was scratched and obliterated. Further, Roberts admitted that he had reasonable cause to believe on October 12, 2007 that this firearm was stolen.


This case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Iowa as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative. This investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Quad Cities Metropolitan Enforcement Group, the Davenport Police Department and the Scott County Sheriff’s Department.
