Davenport Man Sentenced on Federal Drug Charges
DAVENPORT, Iowa - On March 27, 2009, Aaron William Anderson, Jr., also known as A.J. Anderson, age 26, formerly of Davenport, Iowa was sentenced by United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey to 360 months in federal prison after a jury convicted Anderson of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine base, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. Anderson was also ordered to serve at least eight years of supervised release after his imprisonment, and pay an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victim Fund. There is no parole in the federal system.
On February 13, 2008, the Davenport Police Department executed a state search warrant at Anderson’s residence in Davenport. Inside the residence officers seized several items including approximately 39 grams of cocaine base. Anderson was arrested and later escaped from the Davenport Police Department. Anderson was re-arrested by the Davenport Police Department on April 23, 2008. Anderson was found guilty by a federal jury on August 27, 2008. Anderson testified in his own defense. As part of the sentencing, Anderson was found responsible for at least 500 grams of cocaine base, possession of a dangerous weapon and obstruction of justice for giving false testimony at trial.
This case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Iowa. This investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Iowa Department of Public Safety, Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Davenport Police Department.
