Fort Madison Woman Sentenced on Counterfeit Security Charges
Davenport, IA- On March 31, 2009, Robin Leigh Patrick, 44, of Fort Madison, IA, was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment on each of 27 counts of counterfeit securities, with those sentences to be served concurrently, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered that Patrick will serve a term of 6 years supervised release following her incarceration and that she will pay restitution in the amount of $357, 342.63 to the victims of her crime. In addition, Patrick was ordered to pay a $2700 assessment to the Crime Victim Fund and property derived from her crime was ordered forfeited.
Patrick was the receptionist/office manager at Davis Homes in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. While employed at Davis Homes, Patrick took blank checks for the Davis Homes account, drafted checks made payable to herself and others, and forged the signature of Donald J. Davis on those checks. She also deposited a number of the forged checks into her personal bank accounts, either in person or by using an automated teller machine (ATM). In an attempt to cover up her scheme, Patrick falsely claimed that her increased assets were due to commissions on home sales for Davis Homes, knowing that she had earned no such commissions. She also intercepted company bank account statements to prevent Donald J. Davis from discovering her scheme and hid those bank statements at her home.
This investigation was conducted by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Iowa Department of Public Safety, Division of Criminal Investigation.
