Former Kalona, Iowa Man Sentenced to Prison for Firearms Offense

Davenport, IA- Today, Trenton Dwayne Dawson, age 23, formerly of Kalona, IA, was sentenced to 27 months imprisonment, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also sentenced Sountris to serve three years on supervised release following completion of his prison sentence, ordered him to pay an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victim Fund. Dawson previously had entered a plea of guilty to unlawful possession of firearms by a felon.

On August 13, 2008, deputies of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at Dawson’s apartment in Kalona, IA. Deputies had received information that Dawson, a prior convicted felon, was selling marijuana and in possession of firearms including an AK-47-type rifle. In the apartment Deputies found the AK-47 rifle, a Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun, 12 gauge shotgun ammunition, magazines for the AK-47, and drug paraphernalia.

This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa and investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms, and Explosives, and Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
