Burlington, Iowa Man Sentenced to 20 years Imprisonment for Conspiracy to Manufacture Methamphetamine
DAVENPORT, IA - On May 28, 2009, Dan Russell Watson, 45, was sentenced to 240 months imprisonment, having previously pled to conspiracy to manufacture at least 500 grams of a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered Watson to serve ten years on supervised release following imprisonment, and pay an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victim Fund and restitution in the amount of $4959.00.
On June 1st, 2008, a search warrant was executed at the residence of Watson on Brush College Road after he made arrangements to meet with an individual to purchase anhydrous ammonia to be utilized to make methamphetamine. Numerous items used to manufacture methamphetamine were located during the search warrant. Officers began looking for Watson on July 7th, 2008, and he was located at Jennifer Mercer’s residence in Burlington on Sunnyside Avenue. While speaking with Watson, officers located additional items to be used to manufacture methamphetamine in Mercer’s residence as well as her vehicle parked outside of the residence. Watson indicated he had been manufacturing methamphetamine in the Des Moines County area since January of 2006.
This case was investigated by the Burlington Police Department, Des Moines County Sheriff’s Department, Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force, and the Iowa Department of Public Safety Division of Narcotics Enforcement. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa prosecuted the case in Davenport.
