RED OAK MAN SENTENCED ON METHAMPHETAMINE CHARGES
COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA - On June 8, 2009, William Lonnie Hanshaw, age 52, of Red Oak Iowa, was sentenced to twenty years imprisonment for conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. In addition, the Honorable United States District Court Judge, James E. Gritzner sentenced Mr. Hanshaw to ten years of supervised release, and ordered him to pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim Fund.
A one count indictment was filed against Mr. Hanshaw on May 14, 2008, charging him with conspiracy to manufacture at least 500 grams of a mixture or substance containing methamphetamine and 50 grams of methamphetamine. On September 5, 2008, Mr. Hanshaw pled guilty to this charge, admitting to the Court that during 2007 he had been manufacturing methamphetamine in different locations in Southwest Iowa. As part of the conspiracy, Hanshaw had other people purchase pseudoephedrine tablets to be used in the manufacturing process.
This case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa. This investigation was conducted jointly by the State of Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Mills County Sheriff’s Office, the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force, and the Mills County Attorney’s Office.
