GLENWOOD MAN SENTENCED IN GUN CHARGES

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA - On June 8, 2009, Jeffrey James Schoening, age 42, of Glenwood, Iowa, was sentenced by the Honorable United States District Court Judge James E. Gritzner, to twelve months and one day imprisonment for being a drug user in possession of a firearm, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. In addition, Mr. Schoening received two years of supervised release, and was order to pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim Fund.

An indictment was filed against Mr. Schoening on October 15, 2008, charging him with being a drug user in possession of a firearm. On March, 2, 2009, Mr. Schoening pled guilty to possessing firearms while being an unlawful user of methamphetamine. As part his plea, Mr. Schoening agreed to forfeit all rights to his firearms.

This case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa. This investigation was conducted by the Mills County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Mills County Attorney’s Office.
