Former Columbus Junction Resident Sentenced on Federal Gun and Drug Charges

Davenport, IA- On June 25, 2009, Porfirio Reyes Corrales, 39, formerly of Columbus Junction, IA, was sentenced to 60 months’ imprisonment for one count of possession with intent to distribute at least 500 grams of a mixture and substance containing cocaine, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. Reyes was also sentenced to 60 months’ imprisonment for one count of possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking, with that sentence to be consecutive to the other, for a total imprisonment of 120 months. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered that Reyes will serve a term of 4 years supervised release following his incarceration and pay an assessment of $200 to Crime Victims Fund.

In addition to the above, the Court ordered the forfeiture of $30,202 in cash and three handguns, specifically a Sig Sauer P220, .45 caliber handgun, a Llama .38 Super handgun, and a Glock, Model 17, 9mm handgun.

An informant’s tip led authorities to obtain a search warrant for Corrales’ residence in Columbus Junction. During the search on September 25, 2008, officers found the weapons, several stacks of cash wrapped in plastic, and over 600 grams of cocaine.

This investigation was conducted by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force, the Iowa State Patrol, the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office and the Columbus Junction Police Department.
