Fredericksburg Man Sentenced on Federal Assault Charges
Davenport, IA- On July 1, 2009, Randy John Davidson, 46, of Fredericksburg, IA, was sentenced to twelve months and one day imprisonment for one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon within the Special Maritime and Territorial Jurisdiction of the United States, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered that Davidson will serve a term of three years supervised release following his incarceration. Davidson was ordered to pay $100 to the Crime Victim Fund and $180 in restitution.
The charge stemmed from an incident on October 13, 2008, at the Department of Veterans Affairs facility (VA Hospital) in Iowa City, Iowa. Davidson was at the VA Hospital on that date. He became agitated, threatened staff, at one point raising a bench above his head as if to throw it at them. A VA Police Officer responded. Davidson attacked the officer and struck him with the bench. The officer pushed the bench away and pepper sprayed Davidson, who continued to fight. Davidson was sprayed again. Ultimately, it took 4 people to subdue and handcuff him. The officer involved was sent to the emergency room for treatment and has continued to suffer from pain related to the incident.
