LAMONI MAN SENTENCED ON CHILD ENTICEMENT CHARGES
DES MOINES - On July 20, 2009, Robert Kevin Woodard, age 45, of Lamoni, Iowa, was sentenced to a term of 120 months imprisonment for attempted enticement of a minor for sex, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Court Judge James E. Gritzner also ordered Woodard to serve a five year term of supervised release upon his release from prison and pay a Crime Victim Fund assessment of $100.00.
On March 31, 2009, Woodard pleaded guilty to the enticement of a minor for sex charge. The case arose out of an undercover investigation conducted by the Black Hawk County, Iowa Sheriffs Office. From March 31, 2007 to June 11, 2007, Woodard engaged in a number of sexually explicit chats with an individual he believed was a 14 year old girl but was actually an undercover law enforcement officer.
On June 11, 2007, officers executed a search warrant at Woodard’s residence in Lamoni. A forensic exam of Woodard’s computer revealed the aforementioned internet chats. The forensic exam also revealed that Woodard had downloaded and saved in excess of 600 images of child pornography from the internet.
This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa. This case was investigated by the Black Hawk County Sheriffs Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
